Winners of the SUMMER ROADSHOW 2022 as guests

At the beginning of May, we had the pleasure of welcoming the top scorers of goal wall shooting at the SWISS KRONO SUMMER ROADSHOW 2022. After a factory tour in Heiligengrabe, our guests were able to explore the Design Station and were visibly enthusiastic about the aesthetics and atmosphere that the old station building radiates, which we have brought back to life. Afterwards eagerly awaited: The final goal wall shooting. With a lot of footballing skill and even more fun, everyone gave their best again. Accompanied by a delicious barbecue buffet, the day ended in a pleasant way.

There will be a SWISS KRONO SUMMER ROADSHOW again this year. All information about locations and dates can be found here on this page for the 2023 tour.

    Inauguration

It all began 5 years ago with a bold idea from Wittstock's mayor Jörg Gehrmann: Let's develop the former locomotive shed into a driving force for the entire region. Since then, it has been designed and developed, planned and built, restored and repaired. Now we have duly welcomed our "baby" – the Design Station – together with our CEO, Mr. Martin Brettenthaler, with the city of Wittstock/Dosse, with our team, the partners and with all those who were involved in the successful implementation. And we already exchanged the next ideas...

  • 22 March 2023

    Let’s talk

Exchange is very important to us. That's why communication gets a lot of space with us. For every occasion, there are inviting places in the Design Station. Please take a seat!

For concentrated workshops, the room is equipped with 6 chairs, monitor, flipchart and moderation kit.

  • 28 February 2023

    Flooring competence room

This sometimes amazes even us: what an incredible variety of floors we develop. The entire portfolio can now be discovered in the wash hall on the ground floor. All decors are available here to look at, feel and be inspired. Concentrated at the large work table or during a creative break on one of our sofas.

  • 21 February 2023

  • 08 February 2023

    Future meets past

What began as an idea is now reality and the starting point for new ideas: Welcome to our event center. Carefully renovated and technically brought up to date, historic industrial charm meets sustainably designed building use. A small railway history highlight is the preserved turntable – as one of the last in Germany.

  • 02 February 2023

    Welcome, Jordan

Our customer Jordan was with us last week with 5 of his employees and 28 of his largest processors in Wittstock and Heiligengrabe. The agenda included a factory tour in Heiligengrabe to experience OSB production live, as well as product training. On the second day of the visit, the trial operation in our Design Station was visited – only a stone's throw thanks to the immediate proximity to the factory. Here we were able to present the MAGNUMBOARD® OSB construction system to our visitors.

  • 30 January 2023

    Wood Innovation Day

In January, a Wood Innovation Day was held at SWISS KRONO for the first time. At the event, which we initiated together with Potsdam entrepreneur Ulf Leonhard, international start-ups presented their project and product ideas live on site and online. They were able to inspire both the more than 300 users on the livestream and the approximately 120 guests on site. These included school classes and prospective foresters from the region. The event within our trial operation proved to be a think tank for the future and served as a stage for the establishment of new networks. We have compiled further information in our news.

  • 24 January 2023

    A place for everything

In future, you won’t have to look far in the wash hall. Our chic new storage unit means all the important things can be found straight away.

  • 20 January 2023

    Full dress rehearsal

We made the decision not to take part in DOMOTEX 2023. But after almost three years in a pandemic, we still wanted to present our new products to our customers in person. What could be more fitting than doing this in our very own Design Station? From 12 to 16 January, our customers were able to discover innovations from our flooring brands and gain insights into our digital printing options through a trial run at Design News 2023.

  • 17 January 2023

    Roundtable

A focussed session with two people or a lively affair with lots of people – conversations are always important and will play a major role in the Design Station. It’s nice to be able to take a seat on our many different types of new seating, like here in locomotive halls 0 and 1.

  • 10 January 2023

    Exemplary

People have to experience design. That’s exactly why the Design Station is being expanded as a creative centre. The first pieces of furniture have now been moved to their places in the main hall to allow us to properly present samples. Pretty impressive.

  • 6 January 2023

    Please Take Your Places

Work is also busily underway setting up the wash hall. There is already a stylish seating area in place next to the first items of furniture. Make yourselves comfortable!

  • 3 January 2023

    Interior

The main hall has already proceeded to the point where interior decoration can begin. The counter at the entry already has some furniture in place, while the future OSB Cube is also getting its first interior fittings. A great start to the new year!

  • 29 December 2022

    Let’s Get Visual

Looking good came first, now it’s about something for good vision: a projector, a screen and monitors will be installed in the workshop rooms.

  • 20 December 2022

    Hoisted onto the Pedestal

The pedestals in the main hall are constructed with OSB panels. In doing this, we ensure that the original exposed concrete floor is left undamaged and that we create the ideal surface for the later installation of the patterned flooring.

  • 06 December 2022

    TrackMag No. 2

Instead of sweets for snacking, today we serve something substantial to read: Our second accompanying magazine on the construction progress of the Design Station in Wittstock is here. With a historical foray through the site, the accumulated power of the SWISS KRONO Group and with prospects for the future possibilities in the Design Station. If you want, you can download the magazine as a PDF here.

  • 01 December 2022

    Design Gallery

Today we’re also opening a little door to take a look inside one of our meeting rooms. The floor was still being laid here in October, but in the meantime chairs and tables have already been moved in.

  • 28 November 2022

    Marketing

The marketing department is already very excited and looking forward to packing boxes. Not for Christmas, but rather for the beautiful new offices that it will soon be moving into!

  • 25 November 2022

    Flooring Competence Room

Lots of space and plenty of daylight: the former washing hall has what it takes to one day present all of the SWISS KRONO Group’s flooring decors in the best possible way. This where you can enjoy experiencing and comparing the diverse decors and structures.

  • 22 November 2022

    Waymarkers

Nobody’s going to get lost here anymore! The walls of the workshop rooms and catering area now have waymarkers to guide visitors in the right direction.

  • 17 November 2022

    Everything’s ready

Welcome to our event space. We can hardly wait for the first event in the big cube. The glass fronts have been given their design and the first chairs are awaiting visitors!

  • 14 November 2022

    Sparkling

In the golden autumn sun, our pit in the main hall sparkles like an ice rink. Through the new glazing, it’s now possible to look into the past. But that’s not all: we have quite a few other ideas about what can be done with this treasure... get ready to be surprised!

  • 08 November 2022

    Bon appetit!

It almost makes you want to start cooking: In future, this is where the catering team will let their creative juices flow.

  • 03 November 2022

    Entrance

Not quite finished, but already very inviting – our main entrance.

  • 26 October 2022

For the eyes and the feet

Along with the steel construction and many glass surfaces, our laminate gives the future exhibition space of the OSB area real flair, doesn’t it? The Berg Fichte Natur decor from our Mammut Collection was sourced directly from our factory in Heiligengrabe.

  • 21 October 2022

    Floor routine

As laminate manufacturers, it goes without saying that we are always seeking the purest form of pleasure: We lay laminate produced at our factory in Poland in order to create an inviting living area. The Carmen Oak decor from the Paloma Aqua Block 24h will be used for our future meeting room.

  • 17 October 2022

    Lift

Ready for the final technical acceptance! Because we also want the upper levels of our workshop and catering areas to be accessible to everybody.

  • 11 October 2022

    Witnesses of the past

From the outset, it was important for us to retain the history of this architectural ensemble. That is why the cinder pit, for example, is being preserved and suitably renovated: A witness of the past.

  • 05 October 2022

    A lovely little place

The rubbish area – an important place, but one which most people tend to avoid. But ours is even starting to look pretty, don’t you think?

  • 28 September 2022

    Things are on the up

The Design Station is full of details, great and small, that require a lot of diligence and hard work. These stairs will soon be racing up to the meeting room.

  • 12 September 2022

    Green fingers

Autumn is planting season. And the Design Station will be opening soon. That is why we are already sprucing up our outdoor area with plants.

  • 1 September 2022

    Cube glazing

The time has finally come. Cube glazing has begun. The first panes are installed with the utmost precision and a lot of sensitivity.

  • 31 August 2022

    Upcycling

This amount of industrial charm is far too good to throw away. That’s why old, glassless windows now adorn meeting rooms to bear witness.

  • 30 August 2022

    Let’s meet

It’s actually almost time to get started. The meeting room in the office wing is almost complete – the floor is laid, the lamps installed and the walls painted.

  • 29 August 2022

    Bike zone

The outdoor area is being beautified even further. For anyone who wants to visit us by bike, the bike racks have been installed and are awaiting their first pair of wheels.

  • 26 August 2022

    Colour change

The whole building smells of fresh paint. The main hall now has its new coat of paint as well.

  • 24 August 2022

    Let there be light

The days are still long. But we can’t wait for them to get shorter again to be able to switch on our new ceiling lights in the office wing. The finishing touches have been made over the past few days.

  • 17 August 2022

    Paving

It’s not just the interior of the Design Station that is being renovated. Things are also progressing on the outside: there is now eaves paving all around the building. The waste disposal and bicycle parking spaces have already been paved.

  • 12 August 2022

    Wet paint!

The functional wing has been painted and now sparkles in the sun. The sanitary facilities have also been finished here.

  • 9 August 2022

    Setup assistance

Business before pleasure. That’s why we’re getting the furniture for the office wing delivered first. Work can be a pleasure, after all.

  • 3 August 2022

    Parking assistance

If you want to visit us by car, the car park is now paved. Safe travels!

  • 22 July 2022

    The paint is on.

The many steel structures in the main hall are being painted, e.g. on the cubes and the former assembly pit.

  • 13 July 2022

    Transparent separation

The room divider in the washing hall is now completely glazed. A small number of the original tiles that used to run around it have been preserved and cleaned.

  • 5 July 2022

    Laying the foundations

The floor screed was installed as a foundation in the main hall to ensure firm footing.

  • 28 June 2022

    Things are heating up

Even in these temperatures, we are already thinking about winter and have laid the underfloor heating in the main block.

  • 22. June 2022

    Washing hall

For a better partition of the washing hall, a room divider was erected and work on inserting the panels was begun.

  • 17. June 2022

    Parking facility

To help everyone find their way to us easily in the future, the access road and a car park will be built. The ramp supporting wall was fully overhauled.

  • 14. June 2022

    Everything goes round

… the former turntable. The old tracks here will be preserved and the rest of the area will be repaved.

  • 08. June 2022

    Bright prospects

Slowly things are becoming really cosy. The sanitary facilities have now been installed in the office wing and the spaces can be perfectly illuminated with the new lamps.

  • 03. June 2022

    Faster than sound

The correct dividing of locomotive halls 0 and 1 is prepared with partition walls. These will be supplemented later with doors and glass fronts. Work on the lift is also going on. There is also a sound insulation panel for the ceilings.

  • 31. May 2022

    Progress

Of course, when it comes to moving forward, footpaths are also very important. Here we’re preparing the first ones.

  • 28 April 2022

    Spring cleaning

Spring cleaning with window cleaning? Sure, but then do it properly! We simply put completely new glass panes in our archways. Looks good, doesn't it?

  • 25 April 2022

    Functional wing

In the functional wing in the east wing, everything is prepared for the future tiles to be laid. The cementitious sealing is already finished.

  • 21 April 2022

    Upstairs for underneath

On the upper floor, the installation panels are laid out for the underfloor heating.

  • 19 April 2022

    New profile

As further preparation for our Cubes, the new basic profile for the glass walls was built in the main hall.

  • 14 April 2022

    Wander in

Almost as beautiful as a red carpet: our restored staircase into the office building.

  • 11 April 2022

    Everything fits together

In the meanwhile, almost all the joints of the outer wall have been renewed.

  • 30 March 2022

    Workshop rooms

The future workshop rooms in the main hall are walled with plasterboard.

  • 28 March 2022

    Mind the line

In the offices, screed is applied to the floors. Since a normal screed layer must be no thinner than 4 cm, an epoxy resin-bonded screed is used here – for the slim line.

  • 25 March 2022

    Facelift

The main hall is being spruced up: with the new window frames, everything looks much brighter right away.

  • 23 March 2022

    Yet more stairs

A new staircase is also being installed in Locomotive Hall 1.

  • 21 March 2022

    Step by step

A new staircase is now also being built in the operational section in the east wing.

  • 18 March 2022

    New connection

As of now a new staircase connects the wash hall with the office building.

  • 17 March 2022

    Office building

The entrance door to the office building was refurbished and replaced. The associated staircase was torn down and is now being built from new. The old steel construction next to it – additionally secured at present by a diagonal support strut – remains as an original component and will be integrated into the new wall.

  • 15 March 2022

    Cabled

Throughout the entire building more cables are constantly being laid – for electricity, data exchange and for control systems

  • 28 February 2022

    Outdoor Area

Now that the sun is already managing to peek through from time to time, we are starting construction work on the outdoor area. This will end up being the parking zone for visitors, buses and staff. The MAGNUMBOARD® OSB show module will also be located here.

  • 25 February 2022

    Warm Feet

Locomotive Hall 1 and 0 will soon be cosily warm, too. The underfloor heating has already been installed.

  • 23 February 2022

    New Slippers

Inside is a slipper-only zone – and very special ones at that. With our new slippers, we can glide across the screed in the washing hall without leaving any marks. The underfloor heating was installed prior to this stage.

  • 21 February 2022

    Insulation Treatment

Insulation can be several things, and one of them is pleasant. For example, when the heating pipes are insulated in the main hall.

  • 17 February 2022

    Even more groundwork

The cable connections were also laid in the former locomotive halls 0 and 1 and ground construction began. From above, the light or insulation screed looks almost as inviting as shag pile carpet ;-)

  • 14 February 2022

    Floor construction

All the necessary cable connections in the former washing facility have been professionally laid – now the first floor installation can be carried out. For this purpose, light or insulating screed was poured to level the floor and to ensure initial thermal insulation.

  • 11 February 2022

    We’re heating up

The first radiators arrived in the office building at exactly the right time. And they really are pretty chic! They make you feel twice as warm.

  • 8 February 2022

    It’s going up

The staircase that connects the offices and the co-working spaces will be completely redesigned. The railing will be the first step prior to renewing the stone steps. Which, by the way, is made completely out of steel.

  • 4 February 2022

    No wet feet

The floor was sealed against rising wetness in the main hall. The old railway tracks were left out in order to preserve the atmosphere of this place with the original witnesses of history.

  • 5 January 2022

    Flooring for the floor

One of our favourite things – the flooring – is being prepared in the main hall. Here you can see the floor sealant being applied.

  • 29 December 2021

    Lift

A lift is being installed in the engine shed to provide barrier-free access to the upper floor.

  • 22 December 2021

    TrackMag No. 1

Fresh off the press: The first issue of our companion magazine for the construction of the Design Station in Wittstock is here. This issue discusses the future possibilities there, features an interview with Wittstock’s mayor Jörg Gehrmann, and gives us a look inside the construction site at the train station. If you haven’t received a printed copy, you can download the PDF version of the magazine here.

  • 22 December 2021

    Virtual tour

Get a completely new overview of our entire construction site. We lit up all the corners and every floor in detail on 10 December to offer you a 360° tour through the future design station. You can now explore the construction work at the locomotive shed in comfort without a helmet or work shoes. Use the navigation at the bottom left of the newly opened window to do so. It is best to start the tour with the person symbol. Have fun!

  • 21 December 2021

    Doors in the Advent season

As the little doors on Advent calendars are being opened across the world, we are closing our doors ;-). The large gates in the engine shed are being closed off by steel-and-glass elements with integrated door openings. At the same time, historically accurate windows are being installed on the south end.

  • 15 December 2021

    Clothes make the man

Even though opening is still far off: the efforts in the outdoor area should not be underestimated. That’s why we are starting to design the outdoor facilities around the Design Station.

  • 13 December 2021

    Fresh air with OSB

It’s always fascinating for us, too, when our SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBOARD® OSB is installed. To ensure a supply of fresh air in the cubes later on, a space for ventilation technology is created under the stairs – with our chic OSB boards.

  • 10 December 2021

    White, white, office wing

It looks like we will soon be able to put pictures and whiteboards on the walls here for creative work ;-)

  • 08 December 2021

Interior fittings in the east wing

Here the walls are planked and the painting work can also start.

  • 06 December 2021

    Clean wash hall

Recently insulated, the wash hall is now almost unrecognisable. In preparation for the new windows, the new steel frames are already being installed. Everything will then be ready to withstand the winter here too.

  • 03 December 2021

    Continuing towards cubes

The supports for our cubes are brought to their destination and mounted. We can soon get started.

  • 01 December 2021

    Getting ready for the cubes

Things are moving on! The first elements of the steel framework for our glass cubes are being brought to their destination.

  • 29 November 2021

    Upstairs, downstairs

The staircase to the offices, which has been retained, has received active support in its old age from a steel framework that even extends into the cellar. It is now robustly prepared for many more years and all manner of loads.

  • 26 November 2021

Interior work on the office wing

In what will be our offices we are busy filling and plastering. For the time being, however, this concerns the walls and not the contents of the Advent calendar. In addition, the installations for the sanitary facilities are being prepared.

  • 19 November 2021

    Washing facility

The outer walls of the former washing facility are insulated.

  • 17 November 2021

    Ventilation holes

The plan is to air-condition the building during the summer in an energy-saving way by cooling during the night – instead of by air conditioning systems. Ventilation holes have now been prepared for installing the wall fans needed. During the night, the wall fans extract all of the stale warm air, while windows in the roof open automatically to let fresh cold air flow in.

  • 15 November 2021

    Support structure

Since the restored roof must handle different loads than in the past, the buttresses of the main hall have been reinforced with a support structure. This gives them extra support and prepares them best for their weighty task.

  • 12 November 2021

    Foundations

Preparations for the foundations of the main hall are well underway. Our cubes – flexible glass rooms – are coming very soon.

  • 10 November 2021

    Unveiled

Most of the scaffolding has been taken off the design station. The earthworks for the water pipes and electrical power supply between the east and west wings can now start. The masonry has also been opened up to allow draining.

  • 1 November 2021

    Wittstock Train Depot

Preserving this historic sign on the gable of the west wing was absolutely crucial. All the letters were therefore taken down so that they could be carefully repaired, cleaned and restored. Now we could finally have the sign reinstalled on the building.

  • End of October 2021

    Pre-Christmas mood

The lights have flicked on … Our future co-working spaces and office premises are already decorated for Christmas ;-) With such atmospheric workplace lighting as this, the building work is surely going better. Anyone who wants to is most welcome to take a couple of biscuits over to our industrious workers.

  • 25 October 2021

    Powered up

As can be seen, the first electrical work is already well underway on the building site – and it’s urgently needed! Our thanks to Meyenburger Elektrobau GmbH for making the Design Station’s electrical technology fully functional.

  • Mid-October 2021

    Painting work

The painting work in the former washing plant is forging ahead. Here, the future Creative Workshop will inspire Product Management with new ideas.

  • 10 October 2021

    Our banner is up!

Anyone on a train at Wittstock station over the last few days will have found it impossible to overlook: our 20 metre-long banner hanging right opposite the tracks, telling both Wittstock locals and rail travellers about the Design Station building blog. So at this point, here’s a warm welcome to all curious newcomers!

  • Beginning of October 2021

    Windows in the office wing

The windows in the office wing could now be installed. This was a prerequisite for the interior work, which is now commencing. Now you can actually see the future offices for marketing and co-working spaces.

  • End of September 2021

    Completion of the roof renovation

The time has come: The roof of the Design Station has been completely renovated and meets the latest energy standards. After the old roof was removed and the necessary roof trusses were replaced, the roof boards and roofing felt could be applied. The roof was then finished with new insulation and can now withstand wind and weather.

  • End of August 2021

    Heating installation

The new heating system was installed. This will ensure that the offices are heated and that the main hall can also be partially heated in future.

  • Middle of August 2021

Thermal insulation in the office wing

View of the future office wing. Poroton insulating bricks are laid in front of the old brickwork as thermal insulation here. This will ensure an appropriate temperature in the rooms later on.

  • Beginning of August 2021

    Renovation of the roof girders

Another step towards a new roof: the roof girders were refurbished.

  • Mid-July 2021

    Suspended ceiling made from Magnumboard

To create new space in the engine shed, a suspended ceiling made from SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBORD® OSB is installed by our partner MMD. To showcase the material, the suspended ceiling remains visible from below.

  • End of June 2021

    Installing the OSB wall

An OSB wall is installed on the 2nd floor and will later separate the catering area from a relaxation area. The wall was manufactured by our partner MMD.

  • Mid-June 2021

    Replacing the roof

The dilapidated and outdated roof is torn down, allowing it to be modernised and brought into line with the latest energy standards.

  • End of May 2021

    Clean walls

The walls are cleaned to restore the bricks to their original character.

  • 24 January 2021

    Ground-breaking ceremony

The symbolic ground-breaking ceremony marks the beginning of renovation works on the engine shed. Mayor of Wittstock, Jörg Gehrmann, and SWISS KRONO Managing Director, Uwe Jöst, launch the renovation of the Design Station.
