It all began 5 years ago with a bold idea from Wittstock's mayor Jörg Gehrmann: Let's develop the former locomotive shed into a driving force for the entire region. Since then, it has been designed and developed, planned and built, restored and repaired. Now we have duly welcomed our "baby" – the Design Station – together with our CEO, Mr. Martin Brettenthaler, with the city of Wittstock/Dosse, with our team, the partners and with all those who were involved in the successful implementation. And we already exchanged the next ideas...

On the upper floor of our large glass cube there is a smaller conference room for up to 16 people. Equipped with monitor, flipchart and moderation kit, concentrated meetings can take place here in a smaller circle.

If you climb further up, you will find our OSB exhibition on the gallery above our workshop rooms. Here we have collected inspiration for building with OSB. Models and material samples invite you to touch and try them out.

This sometimes amazes even us: what an incredible variety of floors we develop. The entire portfolio can now be discovered in the wash hall on the ground floor. All decors are available here to look at, feel and be inspired. Concentrated at the large work table or during a creative break on one of our sofas.

Anyone who comes to us first enters the former locomotive shed – and from here they can explore a truly innovative, multifunctional and open building. Between architectural witnesses of the past, you can learn about the future of design and construction and also discover our furniture, decors and current highlights of our collections.

Our customer Jordan was with us last week with 5 of his employees and 28 of his largest processors in Wittstock and Heiligengrabe. The agenda included a factory tour in Heiligengrabe to experience OSB production live, as well as product training. On the second day of the visit, the trial operation in our Design Station was visited – only a stone's throw thanks to the immediate proximity to the factory. Here we were able to present the MAGNUMBOARD® OSB construction system to our visitors.

In future, you won’t have to look far in the wash hall. Our chic new storage unit means all the important things can be found straight away.

A focussed session with two people or a lively affair with lots of people – conversations are always important and will play a major role in the Design Station. It’s nice to be able to take a seat on our many different types of new seating, like here in locomotive halls 0 and 1.

Work is also busily underway setting up the wash hall. There is already a stylish seating area in place next to the first items of furniture. Make yourselves comfortable!

Looking good came first, now it’s about something for good vision: a projector, a screen and monitors will be installed in the workshop rooms.

The marketing department is already very excited and looking forward to packing boxes. Not for Christmas, but rather for the beautiful new offices that it will soon be moving into!

Nobody’s going to get lost here anymore! The walls of the workshop rooms and catering area now have waymarkers to guide visitors in the right direction.

In the golden autumn sun, our pit in the main hall sparkles like an ice rink. Through the new glazing, it’s now possible to look into the past. But that’s not all: we have quite a few other ideas about what can be done with this treasure... get ready to be surprised!

As laminate manufacturers, it goes without saying that we are always seeking the purest form of pleasure: We lay laminate produced at our factory in Poland in order to create an inviting living area. The Carmen Oak decor from the Paloma Aqua Block 24h will be used for our future meeting room.

From the outset, it was important for us to retain the history of this architectural ensemble. That is why the cinder pit, for example, is being preserved and suitably renovated: A witness of the past.

The Design Station is full of details, great and small, that require a lot of diligence and hard work. These stairs will soon be racing up to the meeting room.

The time has finally come. Cube glazing has begun. The first panes are installed with the utmost precision and a lot of sensitivity.

It’s actually almost time to get started. The meeting room in the office wing is almost complete – the floor is laid, the lamps installed and the walls painted.

The whole building smells of fresh paint. The main hall now has its new coat of paint as well.

It’s not just the interior of the Design Station that is being renovated. Things are also progressing on the outside: there is now eaves paving all around the building. The waste disposal and bicycle parking spaces have already been paved.

Business before pleasure. That’s why we’re getting the furniture for the office wing delivered first. Work can be a pleasure, after all.

The many steel structures in the main hall are being painted, e.g. on the cubes and the former assembly pit.

The floor screed was installed as a foundation in the main hall to ensure firm footing.

For a better partition of the washing hall, a room divider was erected and work on inserting the panels was begun.

The correct dividing of locomotive halls 0 and 1 is prepared with partition walls. These will be supplemented later with doors and glass fronts. Work on the lift is also going on. There is also a sound insulation panel for the ceilings.

Spring cleaning with window cleaning? Sure, but then do it properly! We simply put completely new glass panes in our archways. Looks good, doesn't it?  

On the upper floor, the installation panels are laid out for the underfloor heating.

The future workshop rooms in the main hall are walled with plasterboard.

The main hall is being spruced up: with the new window frames, everything looks much brighter right away.

A new staircase is now also being built in the operational section in the east wing.

The entrance door to the office building was refurbished and replaced. The associated staircase was torn down and is now being built from new. The old steel construction next to it – additionally secured at present by a diagonal support strut – remains as an original component and will be integrated into the new wall.

Now that the sun is already managing to peek through from time to time, we are starting construction work on the outdoor area. This will end up being the parking zone for visitors, buses and staff. The MAGNUMBOARD® OSB show module will also be located here.

Inside is a slipper-only zone – and very special ones at that. With our new slippers, we can glide across the screed in the washing hall without leaving any marks. The underfloor heating was installed prior to this stage.

The cable connections were also laid in the former locomotive halls 0 and 1 and ground construction began. From above, the light or insulation screed looks almost as inviting as shag pile carpet ;-)

The first radiators arrived in the office building at exactly the right time. And they really are pretty chic! They make you feel twice as warm.

The floor was sealed against rising wetness in the main hall. The old railway tracks were left out in order to preserve the atmosphere of this place with the original witnesses of history.

A lift is being installed in the engine shed to provide barrier-free access to the upper floor.

Get a completely new overview of our entire construction site. We lit up all the corners and every floor in detail on 10 December to offer you a 360° tour through the future design station. You can now explore the construction work at the locomotive shed in comfort without a helmet or work shoes. Use the navigation at the bottom left of the newly opened window to do so. Even though opening is still far off: the efforts in the outdoor area should not be underestimated. That’s why we are starting to design the outdoor facilities around the Design Station.

It looks like we will soon be able to put pictures and whiteboards on the walls here for creative work ;-)

Recently insulated, the wash hall is now almost unrecognisable. In preparation for the new windows, the new steel frames are already being installed. Everything will then be ready to withstand the winter here too.

Things are moving on! The first elements of the steel framework for our glass cubes are being brought to their destination.

In what will be our offices we are busy filling and plastering. For the time being, however, this concerns the walls and not the contents of the Advent calendar. In addition, the installations for the sanitary facilities are being prepared.

The plan is to air-condition the building during the summer in an energy-saving way by cooling during the night – instead of by air conditioning systems. Ventilation holes have now been prepared for installing the wall fans needed. During the night, the wall fans extract all of the stale warm air, while windows in the roof open automatically to let fresh cold air flow in.

Preparations for the foundations of the main hall are well underway. Our cubes – flexible glass rooms – are coming very soon.

Preserving this historic sign on the gable of the west wing was absolutely crucial. All the letters were therefore taken down so that they could be carefully repaired, cleaned and restored. Now we could finally have the sign reinstalled on the building.

As can be seen, the first electrical work is already well underway on the building site – and it’s urgently needed! Our thanks to Meyenburger Elektrobau GmbH for making the Design Station’s electrical technology fully functional.

Anyone on a train at Wittstock station over the last few days will have found it impossible to overlook: our 20 metre-long banner hanging right opposite the tracks, telling both Wittstock locals and rail travellers about the Design Station building blog. So at this point, here’s a warm welcome to all curious newcomers!

The time has come: The roof of the Design Station has been completely renovated and meets the latest energy standards. After the old roof was removed and the necessary roof trusses were replaced, the roof boards and roofing felt could be applied. The roof was then finished with new insulation and can now withstand wind and weather.

View of the future office wing. Poroton insulating bricks are laid in front of the old brickwork as thermal insulation here. This will ensure an appropriate temperature in the rooms later on.

To create new space in the engine shed, a suspended ceiling made from SWISS KRONO MAGNUMBORD® OSB is installed by our partner MMD. To showcase the material, the suspended ceiling remains visible from below.

The dilapidated and outdated roof is torn down, allowing it to be modernised and brought into line with the latest energy standards.
